Ukraine’s Odesa Port witnessed the attack on another merchant vessel on amid the escalation of strikes Russia-Ukraine war. The Indian Embassy in Kyiv issued an official statement regarding the incident, which involved 4 Indian nationals.

The incident
According to the statement from the embassy, the incident occured on Saturday when MV AGN Ragnar was hit at the Port of Odesa, on of Ukraine’s key Black Sea ports. In a statement, The Indian mission said it is closely monitoring the situation. The Embassy also confirmed that two crew members have been confirmed safe, while information about the other two is still awaited.
Just days after four Indian seafarers were killed in a Russian strike at Odesa port, this incident has led to the summoning of the senior-most Russian diplomat and lodged a strong protest.

Advisory issued
India also issued an advisory for nationals taking up work on vessels in the Black Sea. The advisory read, “Seafarers choosing to work in the region should exercise utmost caution and take other precautions, including obtaining comprehensive information from employers, recruitment agencies and ship operators regarding the vessel’s route, ports of call, security arrangements, insurance coverage, and emergency response procedures.”
